This may be my favorite page of combat/chaos in all of issue #3. All the lettering and SFX placement was done to compliment the layout and action. It’s another section of the series where an almost chaotic look to the lettering layout reinforces the chaotic nature of combat, but the lettering is also used to lead your eyes through the panels in an orderly fashion.

This was an important page, with lots of text! The text balloons help the eye take in panel 1 & 2 properly, then force the eye back down and in the direction of our heroes mature response to some seriously bad news.  But, even with such a text heavy page (more accurately, such heavy text balloons) the order and readability of the page still managed to feel rather light, all things considered.

This page is the beginning of the series wrap-up. As you can see, there was a whole lot of information that needed to get on this page.Though, not able to create a perfect eye path for the readers, I was able to use the caption boxes (which tell a secondary story) to ‘connect the dots,’ so to speak. Filling in the blanks for the reader’s eye.
