Seattle Artist Dylan Neuwirth’s ‘THE CONVERSATION’

Dylan Neuwirth, a local Seattle artist, has a very interesting and immersive art style. His masterful use of the entire gallery space creates quite an experience. His multimedia approach allows him to control the room with his artwork, lighting and unique sense of style. His most recent exhibition ‘THE CONVERSATION’ was recently at the Punch Gallery here in Seattle. Here is a look at some of the works from the exhibition. To see a more complete look, check out his Tumblr account here.

Here is the Punch Gallery’s description of Neuwirth’s exhibition ‘THE CONVERSATION.’

The Conversation is a total installation composed of seven iconic works by Seattle artist Dylan Neuwirth. With a conceptual focus, Neuwirth has created a monumental neon piece, four large-scale digital prints mounted on Plexiglass and a minimal, multimedia self-portrait that are centered around a larger than life size, gold-mirrored blown-glass skull.

Sampling narrative from the title character’s monologue at his jester’s graveside in Act 5, Scene I of Hamlet to create an autobiographical account of finding oneself at the crossroads in the bottom of a bottle, Neuwirth’s exhibition is a hubristic postmodern meditation on enhanced personal excess. Collisions of reality, memoir and fantasy are reflected in the works’ decadent surfaces to construct a meta-narrative concerning a possible redemption by the power of personal transformation within the conflicts of the contemporary American landscape.

As a whole, the exhibition refracts collective questions of morality and value in a society of spectacle defined by violence, self-destruction, isolation, dread and doubt.

So Dylan Neuwirth, for making such incredible multimedia art installations and continuing to push, pull and prod at artistic boundaries, Give Us Art salutes the hell out of you!
