On Mike Mignola

Comic book great Mike Mignola is, for me, one of the most interesting and inspirational Artists ever. He and Frank Miller were the Artists that shattered my views and traditional ideals of comic art. Mignola’s use of simple shapes and his dynamic use of shadow (along with Miller’s) was both stunningly beautiful and an affront to my traditional comic art sensibilities. It was trendsetting. Even more, it was (and still is) amazing.

“Hellboy is a comic-book master-piece. With style, imagination, and a haunting simplicity, it creates a parallel universe of mystery and horror, which is unique in the medium. I have nothing but admiration for Mike Mignola and his cohorts. Hellboy restores my faith in the joy of comic books.”

    • Yeah, Mignola has a serious occult, HP Lovecraft, Tim Burton style. But his art was this way before all those things became popular! That’s why I consider him a Trendsetter!!!
